CUNARD Celebrates 175 years of cruising in Australia.

The 12th March 2015 was the date the CUNARD Line Celebrated 175 years of cruising in Sydney Australia.  The event happened over two days, and it was the first time all three CUNARD ships where in Sydney Harbour on the same day.  The Elizabeth cruise ship was docked at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay, and the Queen Mary ocean liner was docked at the Garden Island NAVAL Base.  Click here:https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/queen-mary-2-and-queen-victoria-to-meet-in-sydney-for-cunard-line-anniversary-20150307-13xrct.html for the events time table.

A friend of mine invited me to join her at Circular Quay for the event with her family so I met her opposite the Garden Island NAVAL Base, and spent the day with her.  When I saw the Queen Mary for the first time I thought, “Woo… she’s huge!”  I then spent the next thirty minutes looking at her, and singing the STING song, “don’t stand so close to me” in my head because her size was a bit intimidating.

It was a race to get into the city, but I was able to get there before 3pm for the reunion of the Queen Mary, and the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship.  The ship arrived on time, and greeted each other with a LOUD horn battle. We eventually got our hearing back when it ended, and went our separate ways.  The Historic event then continued well into the night with a fireworks display, and a laser dance party; which was followed by the departure of three ships.

I no longer have the photos I took; but I absolutely loved seeing the three CUNARD ships together, and I hope the event happens again so I can I’d take photos, and film the greeting ships horn battle.
